Scout Ross Johnson

Cub Scout Ross Johnson was recently congratulated by Pack 600 Cubmaster
Kitty Nye and Wolf Den Leaders Sybil Alsup and Patricia Johnson for winning the “Top Salesman Award” for the Pack in its fall popcorn fundraiser.  The fundraiser helps support the Pack in its activities and also helps support the local Boy Scout Council.  Ross sold $1,027 in popcorn.  He is the first Cub Scout from Pack 600 to exceed the $1,000 mark in popcorn sales.  Pack 600 is sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church of Elizabethtown.

ROUNDTABLE
Roundtables are a chance for Unit leaders throughout our district to come together to receive training, get updated on district and council news and enjoy the fellowship of one another.  Lakes District Roundtables are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00pm at The First Baptist Church in Whiteville.

District Committee:

The Lakes District Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm at The First Baptist Church in Whiteville.  This meeting is a chance for community and Scout leaders to get together once a month to grow and develop a vision for the district.  This group of leaders works together to grow and strengthen Scouting in Columbus and Bladen Counties.

Scout Sunday

The Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. However, each chartered organization can use either of two other options to celebrate this special day.
An organization can adopt a specific Sunday to celebrate. In the instance of the United Methodist Church, Scout Sunday is celebrated on the second Sunday in February. It also is permissible for a local church to celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation.

Successful Eagle Advancement!
The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years. Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 1.7 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1912. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness—
remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank. Recently, many Boy Scouts have successfully passed their Boards of Review in the Lakes District. A big congratulations goes out to these scouts:
