Swimming and Water Rescue

Cape Fear Council is excited to offer BSA Swimming and Water Rescue at Camp Bowers this spring. Join us Saturday, August 2nd from 8am-5pm for this in-depth class. Each participant will need the following before the class:

  • Be 15 years old or older prior to training
  • Current BSA physical
  • Complete Safe Swim Defense training

Must be able to demonstrate the morning of the training event:

  • Complete the BSA Swimmer Test:  Jump feet first into water over the head in depth.  Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke.  The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
  • Recover a 10-pound weight from 8 feet of water

This is a course requiring successful skills demonstration and successful completion of a written exam based upon content in Aquatics Supervision in order to receive certification.

You’ll also need:

  • Lunch, snacks and hydration.
  • Appropriate swimwear, footwear, towel and change of clothing.

Successful participants will demonstrate all physical skills and pass a written exam based upon the content presented in Aquatics Supervision and the course curriculum.

Refund Policy  Fees are generally not refundable; however they are transferable to other Scouts in the same unit.  Full refunds will only be considered if requested in writing using the Activity Transfer/Refund Request Form a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of Council organized activity (cub camp, merit badge days, jamboree, Philmont, etc.) and are subject to approval by the Council Camping Committee.

 Partial refunds may be given for later requests due to emergencies, medical situations or mandatory summer school.  Requests for partial refunds must be received in writing by the Program Director no later than 10 days after the conclusion of activity and will be reviewed by the Council Camping Committee.  Notify the Program Director immediately if a Scout may not attend activity due to illness, injury or a personal issue.

All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and mailed to the Council Service Center attention Program Director or emailed to martin.clemmer@scouting.org. Attention: Activity Transfer/Refund Request.  Please include how the check should be made out, who it is to be mailed to, and all pertinent information in relation to the reason for the refund.
