Spring 2017 Merit Badge Classes
We have been hard at work over the past few months coordinating Merit badge classes for our Scouts. See below for the list of classes:
Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Azalea Festival Coin Show
Elks Lodge 5201 Oleander Dr. 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM by a team of Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselors and several coin experts from the Lower Cape Fear Coin Club
Requirements that will be covered in the clinic: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5a, and 8. Scouts will need to complete the following before class: 5b (A link to an online magazine: http://www.coinworld.com/, and it can be accessed without having to subscribe or sign in). 6 (We will discuss the program in class. For the coins: pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can easily help meet this part of the requirement). 7 (We will discuss the mint marks and designer’s initials in class. For the coins: pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can help meet this part of the requirement). 9 (Unless the Scout already has what he needs, we recommend 9d. Pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can help meet this requirement). 10 (The Scout will complete 10b by attending the coin show).
Scouts will receive a Coin Collecting Merit Badge Book, Worksheet, Blue Card, and Whitman’s Coin Collecting Merit Badge Folder.

We are proud to announce a new partnership with the National Weather Service in Wilmington to offer Weather Merit Badge. Scouts will meet at the National Weather Service here in Wilmington, take a tour, then participate in some scientific discussions and activities to cover all requirements of the merit badge. All Scouts should attend in Class A uniform and bring along note taking materials. A merit badge book, workbook, and blue card will be provided as part of the registration fee. Parents are not expected to attend as there is limited space in the building and we want to save space for as many of our Scouts to attend as possible.
Electricity Merit Badge at Cape Fear Museum

The Cape Fear Council and the Cape Fear Museum are partnering together to provide this unique merit badge opportunity for our Scouts. Museum Educators will be taking Scouts on a scientific journey to create electromagnetics, make a simple electric motor, and many more exciting challenges. Through scientific experiments and teamwork, Scouts will complete all requirements of the Electricity Merit Badge. As always, Scouts should be in Class A uniform and bring along note taking materials. Each Scout will receive a merit badge pamphlet, workbook, and blue card.
Traffic Safety & Salesmanship Merit Badges

Prerequisite: Salesmanship Requirement 5. Scouts must complete this on their own.
We are excited to offer this opportunity for Scouts to earn 2 merit badges in one class. Sgt. Mike Clemens will lead Scouts in our Traffic Safety Merit Badge class from 10:00am to noon. Afterwards we will break for lunch and from 12:30pm to 3:00pm Scouts will work on earning Salesmanship Merit Badge with the Cape Fear Scout Shop. Lunch, merit badge books, worksheets, & blue cards will be provided with registration fee. Scouts must wear Class A uniform.

Cameron Art Museum

We are proud to announce a new partnership with the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington to offer Art Merit Badge. Scouts will meet at The CAM where they will receive docent guided tour of the exhibits and art instruction from a CAM certified professional instructor. Scouts will take home several pieces of self-created art in a variety of mediums. All requirements of the merit badge will be covered in class. Scouts should attend in Class A uniform and wear a shirt underneath that they can paint in (aprons may be provided). A merit badge book, workbook, blue card, all merit badge materials, and museum entrance fee will be provided as part of the registration fee. Parents are not expected to attend as there is limited space in the building and we want to save space for as many of our Scouts to attend as possible.

Columbus Arts Center – 822 S Madison St, Whiteville, NC 28472
Come join us as Mr. Fuller Royal, a Professional Photographers of America certified Master and Craftsman, leads this photography merit badge class. Come learn the ins and outs of photography while on a photo safari in downtown Whiteville which will cover many different types of photographic opportunities. Your fee will include your merit badge book, a Portrait of your Scout (emailed to you), a merit badge work sheet, and blue card. Scouts will need to bring a digital camera or phone to take pictures.
Pottery Merit Badge ClassUNCP Locklear Hall – 1 University Drive, Pembroke, NC 28372

Open to all Boy Scouts
Join the Ceramics Art Department Faculty and Students at UNCP as they lead us in a Pottery Merit Badge Class. Scouts will have an opportunity to try their hand a throwing clay on a pottery wheel and making a variety of pots to take home. We are excited to partner with UNCP and look forward to a great class with subject matter experts. .As part of the registration fee, Scouts will receive a Merit Badge book, worksheet, blue card and all necessary merit badge clay and materials.
Skating Merit Badge (Roller Skating Option)
Mr. P’s Skateworld

Looking for something exciting to do during Spring Break? Come and join your fellow Scouts at Mr. P’s Skateworld for a private Skating Merit Badge Class. Instructors with over 30 years of expereince will be on hand to help you learn how to become a roller skating master. Scouts will receive a merit badge book, worksheet, roller skate rental, voucher for additional skating time, blue card, and snack.
Law Merit Badge Class w/ Chief Assistant District Attorney Quintin M. McGee
April 21st, 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Bladen County Courthouse, 106 E Broad St, Elizabethtown, NC 28337
Class limited to 20 Scouts on a first come, first served basis.
Prerequisites: Scouts are invited to attend any session of open court from 9am to Noon on April 21st in order to complete requirement 6(a) prior to the start of the Law Merit Badge Session.
Come join us as Chief Assistant District Attorney Quintin M. McGee hosts Law Merit Badge at the Bladen County Courthouse. Come learn all about the laws that govern our society from members of the local judicial system. Your fee will include your merit badge book, a Law Merit Badge Work Sheet, and all other necessary materials

We are excited to partner with Screen Gems Studios for this awesome Moviemaking Merit Badge Class. Scouts will get a behind the scenes tour of the Screen Gems studios in Wilmington and meet the people that make movie magic happen. Scouts will receive a merit badge book, worksheet, lunch, and blue card.
